Pantanal - Mato Grosso

Pantanal is considered the world’s largest natural reservation. Thousands of animal species live harmoniously in the middle of an exuberant flora, magically distributed on a surface of over 230.000 square kilometres, within the territory of Mato Grosso and southern Mato Grosso. Pantanal life cycle includes two different periods:

bullet

the flooding period, from November to March, which is considered the rainy period;

bullet

the drainage period, from April to October, when an astonishing beautiful landscape flourishes.

A richness of life in a unique ecosystem. During the drainage period the land declivity, which is only 1 to 3 cm/km in the North-South direction, favors the flooding to gently propagate toward the river beds leaving behind a very fertile environment. In this period the region becomes the most rich concentration of natural foods which will sustain all those hungry animals, that remained long on earth islets. The water courses formed by the Pantanal generate numerous rivers: Paraguai, Cuabà, San Lorenzo, Piquiri, Taquari, Aquidauana, Miranda and Apa. The beauty of the region is partly due to this hydrographical system. Their waters are populated by numerous species of fishes feeding millions of other animals of the plain. In all that the attention is attracted by the freedom and exuberance of reproduction. This remarkable example of cohabitation between animals and their natural habitat, so very different from the common life struggle, is also a lesson of environmental integration. One day should someone ask you “does the Paradise exist” you could answer: if it does, Pantal is certainly part of it !
